The Car

The car was based of the last years design with improvements made to the every aspect of the car allowing us to improve our race time and the overall aesthetic of the car. We aimed to improve every aspect of the car possible allowing us to improve on last years design and giving next years team the required foundation to build on.

Initial Designs

After the initial drawings of the design process the car went through 5 different design stages.

1. The first stage was the two team from Pen-Y-Dre creating their own designs in competition with each other after which they would race their cars to find out which team was the fastest and would enter the competition.

2.  Stage two was testing the designs and taking the best parts of both designs and creating a car from those

3. Stage 3 we tested and altered the design again and again until we came to a design that was both aerodynamic and a design the teams liked

4. Stage 4 was making the design race legal. this meant altering the design until it adhered to all the F1 in school race specifications

5. Stage 5 was testing the model and seeing if we could improve on it again. we found the structural integrity wasn't sufficient for high G forces so we added a 3D printed nose cone and spoiler.

Research and development

In order to make the best car possible the students had to find out about aerodynamics, wind tunnels, car designs, thrust and much much more,
